The embed uses your public slug in the browser. Secret API keys stay server-side, and the handoff carries only an anonymous lead token.

A preliminary read, not a family-tree data grab.
For partner checks, Heritage Passport processes the GEDCOM only to return the family-tree screening result. Before the visitor opts in, we do not retain the raw GEDCOM, ancestor names, birth dates, birthplaces, emails, user IDs, identity documents, or payment data. We store only anonymous attribution fields: partner, lead token, tree-match category, whether questions remain, match country, match generation, status, and timestamps.
Before opt-in
No raw family tree is retained by Heritage Passport. The lead is anonymous.
During handoff
The URL carries a public partner slug and opaque ref token, not identity.
After opt-in
The visitor chooses to continue the free assessment inside Heritage Passport.

They upload a GEDCOM for a preliminary family-tree read. Heritage Passport processes the file for the result and does not retain it pre-opt-in.

Put the embed on a "citizenship by descent" resource page, include the snippets in a newsletter, and send interested members to the free assessment. You get attribution and rev-share visibility; Heritage Passport does not retain raw GEDCOM data pre-opt-in, and you never handle member identity documents, payment data, or immigration advice.
