Article 90: Salvadoran nationality for a child born abroad

The constitutional text treats children born abroad to a Salvadoran father or mother as Salvadorans by birth. It does not require both parents to be Salvadoran.

• A complete foreign birth record naming the parent.
• The parent’s Salvadoran birth and identity documents.
• Records explaining any surname, marital-status, acknowledgment, or adoption difference.

The registration creates the Salvadoran family-registry entry used for later documentary steps. Confirm the live process with the office that will receive the file.

If the nearest Salvadoran-born relative is a grandparent or earlier ancestor, establish whether the intervening parent already has a documented Salvadoran status or must register first.
